Spatial analysis tool

As an added-value to the IDOD-database, a "Spatial Analysis Tool" is made available online.

Your data request results can be visualized on a map, together with a background map of the Belgian sea area. In the scope of the IDOD project, we have chosen to use the Azimuthal Equidistant Projection of Postel. You can use our conversion tool to convert your decimal degree data to the Postel Projection. Visualization and functionalities like selecting, querying, buffering features, printing… are possible using ESRI software. Two programs are available (if you use Internet Explorer, the use of ArcIMS is proposed):

 ArcIMS   ArcExplorer

An Internet Map Server (IMS) software for authoring, designing, publishing, and administering Internet mapping applications

>>> START ArcIMS (in Postel)

A geographic data explorer that allows to view and query geographic data stored on your computer or on the web

If you want to use the Spatial Tool Viewer with a background map in the Geographic coordinate system European Datum 1950:
>>> START ArcIMS (in decimal degrees)

Additional scripts developed by the IDOD team give an increased value to the cartographic tool, allowing more complex analysis processes. Thanks to its expertise, the BMDC can also meet more specific and sophisticated requests on demand (interpolation analyses, specific maps, ...).Two types of functionalities are available online:

  • Pre-processed analyses on defined datasets
  • Analyses on your own data set requested from the IDOD database.

The pre-processed analyses of defined data sets allow you to:

  1. Access interpolated maps of salinity and temperature
  2. Extract a profile from the interpolated maps of salinity or temperature, or interpolated bathymetry
  3. Extract a DTM (Digital terrain Modelling) from a pre-processed grid based on bathymetric data.

With your own request result, you have the possibility to:

  1. Visualise your data (from the result of your request, you can use the Spatial tool viewers to visualise spatially your data)
  2. Interpolate your data
  3. Extract a profile from your interpolated data set
