Functions of the Spatial Tool Viewers

The tools on the spatial viewers' toolbars are summarised hereafter:

TOOLBAR BUTTONS
Zoom tools allow you to zoom in, out, zoom to full, next or previous extent, zoom to active layer
The navigation tools allow you to pan, to move up-down or left-right

The interrogation and query tools allow requests about your attribute data (tabular data):

  • you can ask information by clicking on a specific layer (click on and click on your map);
  • you can find information about your layers;
  • you can make a query on your data; example: values of ammonium > to a certain value, or where is the station 330. You can also combine different criteria.
You can measure distances (the result is written in the top left corner of your map) or change the units of your view using the distance and units tools
The buffer tool creates a buffer zone around/along a selected layer; example: create a security zone of 250m along the pipelines
The data comments and selection tools allow you to edit comments about the map, to add information about one layer, etc. and to send your modifications to the Belgian Marine Data Centre.
The attribute table gives you all the information about each layer
To clear a selection, use the clear button
To have information about the map, use the map tips button
The add data button allows you to add data from your local drive (*.shp or image files) or from another website
The layer properties tool allows you to change how a layer is displayed (example: change the symbol type, the color, the size; add a label for the layer; define a scale range at which the layer is displayed)
Using the 'Project utilities' buttons, you can open, save, close a project, or save it as an image
The Geography Network button allows you to add data from this global network of geographic information
