This application allows you to follow the Belgica at sea from 2004 onwards. Data measured continuously by the on-board ODAS data acquisition system is used to generate dynamic maps.
By default, the most recent 24-hour period spent at sea by the Belgica is displayed.
Select years, cruises and daily track files from the main navigation panel. Selecting a specific day updates the map.
Details about each individual cruise can be accessed by placing the mouse over the icon next to the cruise name. You can download files related to the cruise from the tooltip window, or access more information about the covered research programmes.
Switch between the default satellite map and a more simple map background using the top-right button. Please note that the default satellite map is a composite image and does not represent the situation at a specific date and time.
Move the map around by clicking on it, holding the mouse button down and dragging, or by using the arrows located in the top-left corner of the map.
Adjust the zoom level using the "+" and "-" buttons.
You can add GIS-like overlays pertaining to the Belgian EEZ using the checkboxes.
Access additional information by clicking on items on the map.
Some of the variables measured continuously on board are provided; you can access them point-wise (by clicking on the yellow dots along the ship track, directly on the map) or in table and graph form by clicking on the appropriate tabs below the navigation frame.
