EQUIPMENT ON
DECK
|
| 1. Revolving rear gantry |
5.9 m high and 5 meters wide, equipped
with pulleys for the cables of the trawl net used for
fishing and the heavy sampling equipment launched behind
the ship. Capacity 2 x 6 tonnes in the central part,
2 x 8 tonnes on the outermost arms.
|
| 2. Two winches for fishing |
The first winch, which is used for fishing,
holds 1200 metres of cable with a diameter of 24 mm.
The second winch, which is used to send sampling equipment
overboard and to set out autonomous measuring stations,
holds 4000 meter of cable with diameter of 14 mm. Both
winches also have a drum with 350 metres of cable 24
mm in diameter. These winches have a tensile force of
6.4 tonnes at a winding speed of 60 meter per minute.
The tensile forces and lengths of cables paid out can
be read off constantly at the command post in the pilothouse.
|
| 3. Net drum winch |
Used to wind in the large-mesh fishing
net, capacity 7 m³.
|
| 4. Net probe winch |
Is located next to
the net drum winch and used to pay out a measuring probe
along with the fishing net.
|
| 5. Hydraulic crane |
This is a swivelling and telescopic
crane with a range of between 2 and 11.8 meters and
a tensile force of 8 and 2.7 tonnes respectively. Used
to take equipment on or off board or move it to the
rear deck as well as to launch large pieces of equipment.
|
| 6. Small hydrologic gantry |
This is installed
on the lateral work deck and is used to launch equipment
to take water and sediment samples. It has a useful
height of 1.8 meter and a tensile force of 1 tonne and
its outboard working distance is 2.5 meter.
|
| 7. Swinging Davit |
Also located on the lateral work deck
and used to place sampling equipment (up to 500 kg)
2.5 meters away from the ship.
|
| 8. Two hydrologic winches |
both installed on the upper deck. The
first, which has a capacity of 1000 meters of stainless
steel cable, uses the small hydrologic door. The other
has two drums holding 300 meters of steel cable and
1600 meters of stainless steel cable with an electric
cable at the core respectively. This winch uses the
swinging Davit. The drum holding the 1600-meter cable
has touch contacts that establish a connection with
the measuring equipment launched while the cable drum
turns.
|
| 9. Extending mast |
this mast can also be installed to take
air samples up to 4.5 meters in front of the bow of
the Belgica.
