Mariculture

On August 9, 2005 , the Ostend Harbour introduced a permit request for the production of bivalve molluscs (mussels) in 4 different North Sea areas.

Pertaining to the Law on the protection of the marine environment, MUMM carried out the impact assessment study for the proposed activity. MUMM's advice was sent to the Minister responsible for the marine environment on October 6, 2005. This advice contains proposals for a series of conditions of application, an environmental monitoring programme and makes suggestions for the content of the annual activity report.

On October 7, 2005 the Minister granted a permit for the production of bivalve molluscs in 4 North Sea areas.
