Search the events database
Use the following form to search the marine mammals
strandings and sightings database.
This database also contains some data on sea turtles and fish rare in belgian waters.
A
news feed of the latest events stored in the database is available.
The data presented here have been gathered by MUMM/RBINS with
the assistance of many persons and institutes, amongst others
SeaLife Blankenberge, J.van Gompel, Institute of Nature Conservation,
VLIZ, AMINAL, Vogelopvangcentrum Oostende, local communities.
The data presented are preliminary and subject to change. They
constitute only a selection of the data records in the MUMM database,
for strandings and sightings of marine mammals and sea turtles. The data can only be used with the prior consent of MUMM.
Note: because a large number of porpoises are reported, this
database only presents a subset of the available data. For the moment, in most cases, the cause of death is not specifically mentioned. The database does not include data on the by-caught marine mammals delivered by fishermen, which are treated discretely. The main MUMM database (not available online) however does include all reported events and causes of death.
